About the Post Polio Support Society
The Post Polio Support Society of NZ is an incorporated society dedicated to seeking support for people who have had poliomyelitis. It does this through information sharing and where possible, assistance to polio society members and their families, whether or not they are experiencing problems at present.
The Society’s Board of Management meets regularly either physically or by telephone conference, and the annual general meeting of members is held in September.
The Society's newsletter, Polio News, is published four times a year (March, May, August, November) and is sent to all members.
Aims
The aim of the Post Polio Support Society in New Zealand is to provide support for those who have had polio, and in particular
- to collect and distribute information that will enable members to understand and moderate the changes occurring in their conditions;
- to inform medical practitioners of the reality of post-polio syndrome and help update them on advances in research and treatment;
- to work towards the establishment of assessment and treatment clinics for polio survivors and the establishment of at least one centre of excellence in New Zealand for the study and treatment of post-polio syndrome
- to encourage a level of immunisation that leads to the eradication of poliomyelitis in New Zealand and world-wide.
Annual General Meeting and Conference
The Society holds its annual meeting around the second weekend in September.
